The South Wales Radio Control Society first flew at Llandow around
1963 and for many years paid a lease for the use of the runway. Then in 1984 came the chance to purchased the runway we now fly from. This opportunity was grabbed with both hands. A number of members paid a one off life membership to raise the funds.
The runway is made up of solid concrete with a tarmac top surface and is approximately 40 metres wide by 400 metres long. It is now showing its age and it is a constant problem to keep the weeds at bay! However, we still believe it is one of the best model flying sites in the country!
Flying of model aircraft can take place seven days a week at our site but is strictly regulated to maintain safety and consideration for others. Flying times are 10am to 8pm every day.
Visitors are most welcome but please please please do not fly at our field without permission; on your own; outside our permitted times and most definitely not without the appropriate insurance cover, as we may have to live with the consequences of your actions! Loss of flying sites is becoming a big problem in the UK. And the biggest cause is probably through noise nuisance.
We have membership of 100 adults and junior membership numbers are unlimited. This we hope will encourage younger people to join and keep the hobby alive. The club is also an affiliated member of the British Model Flying Association. (B.M.F.A.)
The South Wales Radio Control Society hold regular meetings away from the runway. These take place on the first Wednesday of every month, at 8.00pm in the The Six Bells, Penmark. (near Cardiff Airport). These meetings usually take the form of a drink in the bar followed by a guest speaker or club member's talk or a bring & buy sale, quiz night, raffles, videos etc. Everyone is most welcome to come along.
